LA GOMERA
The island of la Gomera, with a total surface of
372 km2. Is located in the western Canary Islands.
It is almost round, and ist highest point is the
mountain Garajonay with 1.487 m high.
It is the only island that has not suffered contemporary
vulcanic eruptions (since two millions years ago).
Its shape is closely related with the effect of
the water, that formed big and enormous gorges,
so big, that the inhabitants live in them.
La Gomera is well known for its forest, the Laurisilva,
and the gomeros are very proud of this area of
the island.

The economy has been focused on farming
and fishing. Nowadays tourism is getting very important
for the island.
Another interesting historic comment is that La
Gomera was the last stop for Cristobal Colón
before leaving to discover America.
La Gomera is, therefore, history, culture, nature
and an enchanting place to discover. |
